What happens at my MLD session?
Please arrive at your first appointment in good time. You won’t want to arrive stressed and flustered.
Your first visit will begin with a brief consultation period to discuss your medical/health history and details of your procedure if you have undergone surgery.
During the consultation, you will be asked to complete a medical questionnaire. This is necessary because Lymphatic Massage does have a powerful effect on the body and I need to know if you suffer from any medical condition in which Lymphatic Massage would be a contra-indication. For this reason, a client’s first MLD treatment is generally 1 ½ hr appointment.
MLD is an advanced therapy in which a specialised range of gentle rhythmic pumping techniques are applied directly on to the skin in the direction of the lymph flow. This stimulates the lymphatic vessels, vital to the body’s defense and waste disposal system. This treatment stimulates and increases the rate of removal of waste products, toxins and excess fluid from the body’s tissues. It also increases the exchange of oxygen and other nutrients in the body’s cells, improving the overall function of the body.
To get the best from this utterly tranquilizing treatment please take the opportunity to close your eyes & totally relax whilst receiving Lymphatic massage.
What do I wear?
I will leave the room while you change and get onto the couch. You can climb onto the couch in your underwear. Once on the couch, you have a very large towel with which to cover yourself. You will let me know when you are ready and I will re-enter the treatment room.
Your dignity will be maintained throughout the treatment and you will covered by towels at all times, with only the part being treated left exposed.
You just need to relax and enjoy this light but very powerful treatment. The treatment session will last approximately 1 hour depending on your requirements.
After your massage….
A great many clients say they feel like they have just woken from the deepest of sleeps and feel completely energized & refreshed following a treatment.
If you are having a Lymphatic massage treatment as a result of you having surgery, then you will find that the effect of MLD will have reduced the inflammation and swelling in the tissue surrounding the site of surgery & having reduced the pressure in the tissue, you will also find that the pain has reduced too. In addition, MLD also affects your nervous system and has a natural analgesic effect on pain.
You will be given a glass of water after your treatment, and asked to drink plenty of water for the rest of the day. Lymphatic Massage is extremely stimulating to your lymphatic system. Not only will you benefit from hydrating following your treatment, the water will help flush toxins out of your body.
If at all possible, please avoid drinking tea & coffee for the rest of the day – tough I know!
